After arrival in Istanbul you will receive a last preliminary examination. According to this preliminary examination a final decision will be made about the laser treatment to be used. Only surgeons from the World Eye Centers are allowed to determine if your eyes can be treated with a laser treatment. Therefor final information about your treatment cannot be given before the last preliminary examination.

A new technology for refractive surgery treatment of refractive defects like myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism: Intralse Lasik. Intralse involves raising a disc of cornea as a flap with a computer-controlled laser light. The flap's position, diameter and thickness are determined preoperatively. Intralase minimises the risks involved during the flap creation stage of this procedure. Intralase lasik provides the opportunity to create a customised flap and thus increases the success of the surgery on most patients. Creating a flap with intralase can be carried out according to the patient preferences, or, for some patients, our doctors may advise this procedure, due to the characteristics of the cornea.

Lasik is the most commonly used method in refraction-surgery. This method was used for the first time in 1989 by World Eye Centers scientific advisor Prof. Dr. Pallikaris in Greece. At the World Eye Centers over 2000 eye treatments are performed each month. Prior to your laser treatment, a thin layer called Flap is made on your cornea with the help of a device called Microceratom. Microceratom is a mechanical knife. It comprises of an arm catching the eye and a knife part cutting by rotating above this arm. Preparing Flap is the previous stage before excimer laser application in Lasik method. The patient will feel no pain during this procedure. Your laser treatment takes 4 or 5 minutes for each eye and you do not feel any pain. During the treatment, you should feel relaxed and abide by the instructions of your ophthalmologist. Upon the completion of your treatment, you leave the laser room without a bandage covering your eyes and are taken to the waiting room for a final control by your ophthalmologist before leaving the hospital. At the World Eye Centers keratome knives are disposable and for 1 time personal use only.

First of all, laser treatment method suited to your eye structure is determined. Your eye measurements and results are carefully entered to our hospitals’ computer-controlled state-of-the-art technology laser devices and checked by your ophthalmologist. Your surgery is carried out by our experienced ophthalmologists who are specialized in laser treatment. During PRK surgery, your face is covered with a sterile cloth and then your eyelids are opened out with the help of a special apparatus in order not to let you blink. Eye drops are put in your eyes during the treatment. Local anesthesia is administered. Flap is not created in cornea. Instead epithelial tissue, which is the top layer of corneal tissue, is scraped off and laser beams are administered to the upper surface of cornea. Recovery of exact visual ability may take 3 or 4 weeks in this treatment method, which is longer compared to Lasik.

With this treatment the most superficial surface of the cornea is softened with an alcohol-solution and rolled up. After the laser treatment has been completed, the surface of the cornea is returned to its original position.

The surface of the cornea gets lifted with a special device, the laser treatment will take place and after that the surface of the cornea will be put back, just like a 'living' contact lens. This is a treatment method that was invented and developed by Prof. Dr. Pallikaris. EPI-LASIK is an alternative for PRK or LASIK and is suitable for patients with a thing cornea surface. This treatment method is only performed by World Eye Centers and by a small amount of centres in other countries. This technique protects the cornea surface.
